Overall Call:
Training Day features Denzel Washington, playing against type, and Ethan Hawke in a day in the life of narcotics officers. Actually it is a rather unusual day in the life but of course it wouldn't be as interesting unless we happened to catch them on their most intriguing day. Denzel plays Alonzo Harris a rather unsavory character and Hawke is Jake Hoyt, the wide eyed idealistic rookie. The first day of "training" is a crash course in rough ethics for all to ponder. The film moves along at a nice clip without feeling rushed. All in all Training Day serves its purpose as an action film to take your mind off of life for a while.

Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Washington has fun playing against his usual hero character
+ Well paced action film
