Overall Call:
Admittedly this one took me a while to see. Finally I rented it and boy was I sorry I didn't see it on the big screen. This movie did receive a fair amount of press. The hub bub was mainly a result of David Lynch making a G rated film, and Farnsworth's Oscar nomination. I list this one for recommendation to hopefully get people past their preconceived notions on the film. It isn't sappy, boring or too heavy handed. It is as the title suggests - The Straight Story. It's a rare brilliant film anyone can enjoy. The story is simple and doesn't need repeating from the earlier explanation above. It is exquisitely shot, has brilliantly understated performances and the story is just chalked full of subtle life lessons without being preachy. Rent this one, gather the family around and enjoy. Those reluctant to settle in will be satisfied at upon it's conclusion. See The Straight Story.
