Overall Call:
This one tends to play heavily to its target audience, Hollywood. This is not to rule it out for others, those that I watched it with (not that familiar with the industry) seemed to thoroughly enjoy the picture. There will just be some jokes here and there that might fly over your head. The script is written in a Mamet familiar tone all be it lighter than his usual (Homicide, Spanish Prisoner, Winslow Boy). Baldwin, Hoffman and Macy (a Mamet regular) were all right on the mark in their respective roles. The story didn't actually go anywhere unfamiliar, it was just entertaining watching it go. State and Main is a story about Hollywood in a small town by a guy who has very defined opinions on the material at hand. If this seems like your cup of tea, drink up it's familiar taste is refreshing.
Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Appropriately scathing wit on Hollywoodites
+ Smart dialog (as usual for Mamet)
+ Handful of great performances and one liners
