Sexy Beast is music video director Jonathan Glazer's first feature. A successful one at that. His background shows only slightly and in a very good light. The use of music and different film speeds are utilized well. The plot is revealed like the characters dialogue, on a need to know basis. While the story didn't twist anywhere unexpected it played out in a manner that wasn't at all predictable. There are small bursts of violence that break up the film that is more about the characters and their predicaments. The two leads Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley are outstanding and extremely engaging. The rest of the cast put their best foot forward too. Overall the film whisked right by and was an enjoyable albeit intense character study thrill ride.
