Overall Call:
Alison Maclean delivers a successful sophomoric effort in the actor driven Jesus' Son. The film based off the book by Denis Johnson plays like it reads. The movie is delivered in several different vignettes each containing some new bizarro characters. Some have complained of it being disjointed but it kind of just adds to the oddly fractured life of FH (Crudup). It's the story of someone not usually in his right mind and the many poor decisions he makes in that state. It is interesting how the drugs were handled in this film. It was just a way of life for the characters so the use was downplayed. There were a couple of your traditional shoot up scenes. Overall though I had to remind myself that in most scenes FH and Michelle were messed up on whatever they could find. I can't say enough about the two leads though, they were brilliant. Jack Black also turned in a nice dose of comic relief. Holly Hunter was impressive as well in her small scene near the end of the film. The film spoke to me and to the facets of film I love. If the topic doesn't do much for you, you might not get everything out of it I did. Overall audiences seemed split on this film, for me it's one of my all time favorites.

Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Crudup and Morton are nothing short of brilliant
+ Many vignettes give you a chance to get back in it if others loose you
+ Dark humor
