Overall Call:
Based off of Bruce Springsteen's Highway Patrolman Sean Penn successfully delivers his first film. It is the story of big brother Joe and troubled brother Frank. Joe relentlessly picks up after the mess Frank leaves in his wake. Troubled as a child, matters aren't helped much by Frank's stint in Vietnam. Upon his return Frank's life basically picks up were he left off. Penn is very consistent with the stories he is drawn to. All of his films take their time and slowly reveal the characters inner workings. Some have problems with his films dragging here and there. But most can't deny upon the films completion they were served a plate full of thought provoking, engrossing, truthful, real life without the crusts cut off. I won't even get into specifics of the cast as it is 100% solid, as is the Cinematography. Penn has an innate eye for quality. Any production he puts together contains a solid cast and crew; it shows in the final product. If some rainy night you feel compelled to experience an intense dose of life relations rent the Indian Runner, you won't be sorry.
