Overall Call:
Ang Lee has done a splendid job fusing two stories that often has one falling short when combined; way short. This time both the action and love story are equally strong. The two love stories are traditional without being cheesy. The action is well executed offering a new look at old martial art battles. The side love story though, seemed to be placed almost in full, in the middle of the film. It was definitely pertinent to the overall story. But it felt as if half way through the movie the main characters were put on hold while this new bit of info was spelled out. It wasn't necessarily bad, just an odd block like editing decision not to intersperse any of the main characters during the side plot. Perhaps some numbing has taken place with the hyper editing occurring in film as of late. All in all, it's a pleasurable throw back fantasy/action/adventure/drama/romance that moves with beauty and grace at a nice even pace.
Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Gorgeously Shoot
+ Wonderful action sequences
+ Nice traditional love story
