Overall Call:
This remarkably self-assured directorial debut by Alejandro González Iñárritu is something to behold. A note for animal lovers though, you may want to just skip this one all together. It is very violent and although there weren't any animals hurt during shooting, it is still a difficult one to view. The three separate stories are all very strong and successful at exuding a different aspect of unreturned love. The performances were solid for the most part. The direction was very distinct and established its own personality from the get-go. The film was a bit long winded at two and a half hours. The three stories overlapped well without seeming gimmicky. If you're in the mood for a touch of artistic violence and three well told stories you might want to give this one a chance. It received an Oscar nomination for best foreign film.
Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Well integrated triple-decker story structure
+ Artistically well shot film
