Overall Call:
This simple premise makes for an enjoyable movie. Myles Berkowitz can't get a date or his film career going. He decides to infuse the two difficulties into one big attempt at fixing everything. The whole premise is a documentary on finding love in L.A.. A daunting task indeed. What follows is the realization this may not be as sincere a documentary as one is lead to believe. The actual structured portions aren't quite as engaging as the frequently humorous dates. This is a typical "I'll wait for the video" rental. 20 Dates can be bit uneven but is entertaining when the humor hits. Also if you don't care for the Woody Allen type of self loathing this may not be for you. Being aware of these points should help the film become a more enjoyable experience. Overall it's a light self-effacing comedy that hits more than it misses.
