Overall Call:
Spring Forward is one of those films you only end up seeing after someone forces you to see it. It has really only two characters that take up 90% of the film and is all about conversation. I know, how could that possibly be entertaining, it is, very. Liev Schreiber plays a guy recently released from jail ready to do good and Ned Beaty is an old and wise parks department employee. Both are outstanding and will be lucky if they get roles as good as this again in their careers. Their relationship grows over the course of the four seasons, which are used as the framework of the different scenes. Each season is beautifully shot and depicted in the movie. A note to watch for is the subtle changes in the characters physically. Also the film was really shot over the course of a year, so the actual seasons were real. This movie is a real find. I urge you to see it, then urge others to see it (if you miss it in theatres, you'll surely hear of it again in the Fatty section). It's a rare reminder how small films can produce huge results.
