Overall Call:
Quills was good, but didn't thrill me as I thought it might. Competently directed by Philip Kaufman who returns to a recurring erotic place (Henry and June and The Unbearable Lightness of Being). Kaufman was able to achieve solid performances from most of the cast. Standing out was Geoffrey Rush in an Oscar worthy portrayal. Kate Winslet and Michael Caine delivered as expected performances. While Amelia Warner turned in a job well done as Dr. Royer-Collardands (Caine) arranged wife, giving us a glimpse at someone to watch out for in the future. If you do choose to watch this one take note of the production design and costumes which were appropriately pleasing. If the story, material, trailer or commercials seem to float you movie boat, check it out.
Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Geoffrey Rush delivers Marquis de Sade like no one else could
+ Aptly dressed production design and actors (nice set and costumes)
+ Tastefully treated explicit material
