Overall Call:
Well I'm going to recommend this one. It is the best of the blockbusters this summer, but as with the previous couple of years, that is not really saying much. Planet of the Apes is a visual masterpiece. The ape's makeup by Rick Baker is flawless and the atmosphere created by director Tim Burton is great. The script was most certainly lacking. It is a fun ride with some interesting differences to the original. The main component missing in this attempt is the depth of character from the actual story. Burton's version seems to have, as a whole, side stepped the weighty issues that the original film took head on. However, the strengths of the picture were so solid that this version does deserve a recommendation.

Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Burton's usual wonderfully created make-believe world
+ Visual style is outstanding
