Overall Call:
Life as a House is a sure fire tear jerker, if you buy into the premise without feeling manipulated. A story about a man's dying days is inevitably going to cause emotion if you are invested in the characters. At times I could feel the script and soundtrack trying too hard to sway my emotions. The acting was so solid by the whole cast that any extra emphasis seemed too much. Kevin Kline and Hayden Christensen anchored the film and were both excellent as father and son. The cast's dynamics were also interesting and I did eventually become invested in the personalities. All in all if you're in the mood for a solidly presented, bitter sweet affirmation of life, check out Life as a House.
Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Kevin Kline and Hayden Christensen performances
