Overall Call:
A.I. is about as well put together a cinematic experience as it gets. It was everything I expected, a great melding of Kubrickian (originally slated to direct it) philosophical edginess coupled with Spielbergian glossy pop-culture delivery. I gave up all my preconceived notions at the door and just rode the movie all the way through the 2 and a half hours. The acting was great I'm sure Haley Joel Osment will receive all kinds of recognition for his portrayal. Visually it was another masterpiece turned in by a director who doesn't know how to deliver anything less. Whether you like or dislike his style he consistently delivers a solid package. There were many topics covered and there will probably be detractors that would've preferred one topic or another to be focused on more thoroughly. However, like I stated earlier I just rode through the movie never wanting more than what was offered and enjoyed every minute of it. I will say that the film slathered on a syrupy layering of schmaltz but Osments performance was so honest and sincere I bought it hook, line and sinker. It's long and not without a schizophrenic feel, but absolutely worth recommending.
Reasons For Recommendation:
+ Many interesting philosophical issues raised
+ Beautiful cinematography delivered by Janusz Kaminski
+ Osments performance
